apt-get problems

Hi Guys,

I recently just did a fresh install of Debian 3.0 r2 and during the installation process it didnt pick up my NIC. So I had to configure the module to use manually and got it working fine. Well I think its working fine, I can ping other IPs on the network but I cant ping outsite. For example I cant ping www.google.com to make sure I can see an outside connection (is that a WINS issue?)

Anywho because my NIC wasnt working during installation apt-get wasnt able to update its sources list and anytime I run apt-get update it comes back with the error that the hos is unreachable.

Ive found what are supposidly source sites for Ireland but also getting connection errors with them. The site I am using is

deb http://ftp.ie.debian.org/debain stable main contrib non-free

My understanding (which may be completley wrong) is that once you have one source site and you do an update it will automatically put the more relavent entries into the sources list file, correct?

I dont know wether its a networking issue or its a problem wtih apt-get. Any suggestions on how to elimnate the networking issue would be greatly appreciated.

Oh and Im still a bit of a n00b so spell it out a lil bit for me............ Dime Bat

It sounds like your resolv.conf file may not be populated with your DNS servers.
