apt-get problems

With a lot of the packages I try to install, I get the following message?

Media change: please insert the disc labeled
'Ubuntu 5.04 _Hoary Hedgehog_ - Release i386 (20050407)'
in the drive '/cdrom/' and press enter

Shouldn't it just download all the pacakges from the repositories? What does this mean exactly?

Thanks.

use apt-setup to configure ubuntu to use the WEB. I believe the same task can be achieved in Synaptic package manager.

You have installed from cdrom.
The repository on the cd has been added to your sources.list at install.
Even though you may have added online repositories, the versions
on the cd have not been overidden by the online ones, possibly due
to a lack of a pin preferences config.

If you only intend to install software from the net, you may as well
comment (or delete) the entry in sources.list that mentions the cdrom.

Check your sources.list file in /etc/apt/sources.list. Remove the cdrom entry from there. That should work.
