I have found a few threads that have touched on this subject, but none that seem to be able to tell you how to fix the problem (despite some people saying they installed x, y or z and got it going).
I'm trying to play a clip from the Fox website of Stephen Fry talking about Hugh Laurie. It tells me that I need a plug and it's type application/x-mplayer2. Many people have suggested installing mplayer - which I have done, but this doesn't work at all. I can see it installed in /usr/bin/mplayer and also /usr/local/bin/mplayer (I think there may be two installations - maybe one was already installed).
I have seen various suggestions as to installing win32 codecs rpm - which I have; also installing the plugin with Helper Applications in the preference dialogue box (which doesn't exist on Firefox by the looks of it).
Does anyone know if this really is possible in Linux? I get the impression I'm trying to play a .wmv file, but I'm not sure that's at all possible.
If you have mplayer and the essential-codecs pack, you need to get hold of the mplayerplug-in. This allows you to use mplayer with firefox. Try "urpmi mplayerplugin" and if that doesn't work, go to the website.
Was wondering if you got it working? I have the same problem and can't stream radios online.
It seems like the website is trying to stream an asx file [ "streaming/R1O/R1O96.asx"].
One common problem is that the mplayer plugin gets misplaced. On my own pc, I have found that I had to move the mplayer-plugins from /usr/lib(64)/mozilla/plugins to /usr/lib(64)/firefox/plugins.

Hi Jalla,
I never got mplayer working, but I can stream audio using Real Player and it works very nicely.
simple solution for fc4 and above
download and install the following file, provided that you have mplayer fully installed
if you don't have mplayer fully installed and working then install it first this rpm is for fc4 or compatible and above
oh and don't be fooled if it doesn't run when you first try to use it you need to restart the browser and then you need to open a page that requires the video plug in and then once loaded you need to right mouse click the play window and configure it to match your system.
