Question [display] Aspire 3810T NOK

Hello

I successfuly installed Ubuntu 11.04 through the NetInstall option on an Aspire 3810T laptop.

Using the default option, the laptop boots OK, I can ssh to it OK, but the screen on the host just displays a blinking cursor. I assume the stock Ubuntu doesn't have the right display driver:

Code:
root@ubuntu:~# lshw -short
H/W path Device Class Description
=========================================================
/0/100/2 display Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller
Has someone seen this, and knows what to do?

Thank you.

I had a similar problem with my ACER ( Aspire, 5570z, 2008), the first time I installed Ubuntu, but that was three years ago. I think at the time it was a driver problem. I forget exactly what the issue was, but I remember needing to specify the correct driver in one of the X-Org configuration files. I also recall needing to use dpkg to do this. I'm pretty sure that the correct driver was either already installed (just not being used!), or I was able to get it through an Ubuntu repository.

My video card might be different than yours though (Intel 945GM/GMS, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller).
Maybe posting the output of lspci would help some smarter people than me figure out whats wrong?

try
Code:
 lspci | grep video
sorry for the nebulous answer

Thanks for the tip. This is a server, so I didn't install X so the host should just boot into text mode. Is there an option I should use at boot time?

Code:
ubuntu:/etc/samba# lspci
00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Memory Controller Hub (rev 07)
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07)
00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07)
