Acer Aspire display

Does anyone know anything about the specs of an Acer Aspire 5002 laptop monitor? I've been searcing around the net to figure out how to get my graphics to work under SuSE server with not much luck. X will just lock everything up after a few seconds and i believe its the lack of monitor specs (the sis driver is supposed to cover my graphics which is SiSM760X). Now, i did install SuSE graphically just fine, so i should hope that their is some way to get X to work.

All i could get from acer website is that its 15.4" WXGA Crystal Brite, 1280 x 800 x 16.7 million colors. But don't i need the frequency rates and such to put in XF86Config?

Have you tried going with a "naked" (not putting any refresh rates at all) or running the xf86conf program (I think that is what it is called.. the graphical version of the configure program)?

Providing your laptop has some sort of DCC your settings should be autodetectable.

when i try xf86cfg (the graphical program) or X - configure i get a module load failure. The log shows that it found and SiS unkown chipset, shows a list of all the graphics drivers, and then proceeds to try to load the first 4 and then exits. ALthough i have set in the XF86Config to use the sis driver (which should be the proper one for my sisM760 card).

Also leaving it naked and then startx after a few seconds X will freeze up again.

But when i commented everything except the identifire of the monitor X seem to work alright, but the resolution would not go above i think 400x300 (according to the XFree86.log).

Is there some way to enable WXGA and an aspect ratio of 16:9 in the XF86Config so i can get 1280x800 res?

first of all sorry for my english...

I have an Acer Aspire 3002LCI, it's almost the same as the 5002. The chipset is a SIS m760, which is crap. It doesn't support DRI in linux ( http://www.winischhofer.at/linuxsispart1.shtml#13 ). My monitor only supports 1024x768 but If you want I send you my xorg.conf .
If you want to know your monitor specs you can use "ddcxinfo-knoppix -monitor" or "sisctrl". I'm using Gentoo and they are in portage.
