Text editing & subversion

I have never used any CVS but need to use a system that would keep track of progressive editions of text in a Server, is Subversion suitable or is there a more suitable alternative in the open source (Debian Lenny)?

Thank you for your help.

Subversion would allow you to track text file changes. After all most source code is simple a structure chunk of text, I'd recommend it.
