PAM troubles

Dear fellow linux people,

I am having troubles with my PAM, the storie goes like this.

I'm using debian Lenny/sid and i was playing around with OpenLdap2 and pam_ldap.so .
After a while of tinkering and googling i couldn't get Debian to authenticate against the Directory.

So i thought, i will restore all the stuff in /etc/pam.d/, /etc/nsswitch.conf, and /etc/security/pam_unix.conf so i can go use my linux again. But when i wanted to log in i got this most mysterious message which tells me: "Permission Denied".
At that point i was thinking by myself: "I have another Debian machine which is exactly the same as this one so i will copy the pam.d stuff to this over.(actually i typed it over)." well i gave a reboot and was ready to log in again. so i give my username to login and then..... without typing any
Code:
password: "Login incorrect, Login incorrect, Login incorrect, Maximum number of tries exceeded (5)"
.

Again,
reboot.
init=/bin/bash.
mount -o remoun,rw /
tail -100 /var/log/syslog.

syslog said:
Code:
pam_unix2: cannot get options
pam_unix2: cannot get options
so i tried from the commandline to login
Code:
root@(none):/ # login <enter>

Login incorrect

Login incorrect

Login incorrect
Maximum nuymber of tries exceeded (5)
root@(none)
Does anyone has a clue? I think i am overlooking something. If you want to see some config files i will paste 'em here.

thanks in advance

edit:
btw when is give a su, i get the following:
Code:
root@(none):/# su
su: Permission denied
(Ignored)
su: Memory buffer error
root@(none):/#

ok,
first of all i want to say that i am practically pretty much stupid:

let's say /etc/pam.d/login says something like:

include @common-auth
include @common-account
include @common-password
include @common-session

in the file common-auth there is a line which says:

auth required pam_unix.so

in the file common-account there is a line which says:

auth required pam_unix.so

well that was pretty much it

but anyway thanks for reading this post

cheers
