Away (Vacation) return Email

We currently have a Vacation mail system up and running which doesnt seem to work. One of the seniors have gone on holidays, and i would like to set up a return email message system to let whom is trying to get through to him know that he is away.

I had no idea how the current system works, which places a .vacation.msg file in the users home directly, but it doesnt seem to work . is there a way to work around this ?

It may need a .forward file as well as a .vacation.msg. For the Exim 4 mail system:
