configuring sendmail to return vacation messages

Hi all,

Im running a mail server on a Linux Red Hat version 8.0. Im wondering, how does one go about configuring sendmail to return vacation messages to a sender, telling him or her that the receiving party is away on a holiday or is off. The version of sendmail im using is V. 8.12.10. Is there some third party software that i must use?

As im new to Linux, I hope this messages does not sound ridiculous to any of you.

Look into the a program called "vacation". That's what I use. What it does is that it creates a .forward file in your home directory. It's very simple and easy to use.
