Single User Mode password question

Sorry if this was asked before.

If I run single user mode in GRUB, I'll be logged in as root right? Then by using passwd, I'll be able to set a new root password.

Just want to know if I don't set a new password, will the old root password be in effect after I reboot my pc?

example:
root password is '12345'
run single user mode in GRUB
i didnt change the root password.
rebooted the pc
logged in non-root account
typed 'su'
will the root password still be '12345' ?

Sorry, newbie here
Thanks.

It should be. Unless you change it.
