security risk possible from Genbolt security cameras. that automatically connect to 3 Chinese ip#s even when it is not configur
Sort of on topic here with a query.
Why would a security camera automatically connect to 3 chinese ip#s even when it is not configured to do so?
I've setup a Genbolt security camera and being suspicious I checked to see if it would connect to others servers even when not configured to do so.
I understand if it had connected to a NTP server but to 3 Chinese servers (that happen to be running ssh server and backorfice etc..) FFS.
Even when the camera was configured NOT to connect to any external server it still connected to the 3 IP#s.
The seller claims it is connecting to chip servers, whatever that means.
These cameras also encourage you to setup remote monitoring using the only available user account on the camera, wait for it, admin with no password. The camera software also encourages you to link to your ftp server, Yahoo! e-mail and Google mail.

Reason: grammar
Have a read of this - even government security agencies have been compromised.
Huawei has been banned from tendering for phone infrastructure, dji drones are suspected of reporting all GPS (and maybe all video) data to Chinese government servers.
Exactly - bad part is it's difficult to find non-Chinese made electronic devices these days. Most people just look at the price and go with it. Scary stuff for sure.
