IP Cameras / Security Server

Hi,

Im looking at setting up some outdoor IP Cameras (Ethernet) around my house, the plan is I would run a couple of them into a network switch, then connect the switch into a PC (linux) which records the video stream(s) to a large HDD and also outputs them to a TV, either the graphics card, or a tv card im not sure which is best.

Is there by any chance any kind of 'all in one' video security package for linux which does the above tasks? Or has anyone done this before and have any advice? Maybe IP cameras are not up to the job I have virtually no experience in camera work however i would like a pc to be involved rather than just using a cctv video unit or something. I have a budget of about £1500 for the complete setup, and that should include at least 2 cameras.

Thanks for any advice,
Jack

I never implemented it yet, but I've seen http://www.zoneminder.com/ some time ago and linked it, to whenever I decide myself to do the same as you. (And I liked the D-Link DCS-900 IP camera a little, is not the best to buy but has an interesting price for an overseas buyer like me.)
With no ip cameras available you have the http://gspy.sourceforge.net/ project.
Cheers.
