run script on invalid password

Does anyone know a way to run a script on invalid password attempts. It could be 1 or 3 or whatever. I just could not find a way to signal something to run.

Thanks

I had looked into this previously, and my understanding at that time was that login had no function to run a command or program in reaction to failed authentication attempts; but that it could be modified to do so.

Of course, modifying the source of login is a dicey procedure from a security standpoint, and not something to be taken lightly. In fact, that is probably why that capability isn't included in the first place; the security of the program which would be run at a failed login can't be ensured, so it could become a possible exploit. Imagine an attacker gaining access to your system basically by giving the wrong password.
