OS Identity Transmitted

I am not an expert but why is the type of OS is being transmitted? If I go on certain sites it shows I am using Linux. While I understand why an IP address is shown but why the OS? I understand Linux is more secure than Apple and Windows but this transmission lets no gooders know what OS they are dealing with which is a severity issue in my opinion. Is there a way to correct this issue? What say you?

Are you talking about the User Agent string your browser submits? If this bothers you, there are browser extensions available which set it to whatever you want.

Browser User Agent

You can change your UA (User-Agent) settings with a plugin or manually.

Read. Ask. Repeat.

I don't know if that is what it is that sends it. I am using Firefox. What are the names of those programs?
