identifying applications with connections

Hello,
I am wondering how I find out which applications have connections open to the internet and what addresses they are connected to. For instance I have clamav + freshclam installed and freshclam will open a connection in the background. I can see it on KSysGuard but it doesn't show the details of the connection. At other times I have used wget but I couldn't see that in KSysGuard at all. I'd like to be able to check that nothing is going on that shouldn't be.
Thanks.

a firewall test utility would be completely useless if you're trying to see the connections (and relevant processes) which are active on your box...

what you want is to execute some commands like this (as root):

Code:
netstat -pantu
Code:
lsof -i
just my ...
