mine is an internal, but it should be about the same. connect it and then open yast2. select >misc>hardware info. that will probe everything and display a list of what it found. the zip drive should be under the heading floppy drives(it is for the internal atapi drive anyway) once you find it , note its name. it's probably /dev/sda or something similar.
close yast. then at the root prompt type: mkdir /media/zip and make a simlink: ln -s /dev/sda1 /media/zip. as root open /etc/fstab and enter the line: dev/sda1 /media/zip auto user, noauto, 0 0
save and close. then to create the filesystem enter: mke2fs /dev/sda1. if your using kde, right click the desktop and choose create> floppy device, fill in the device (dev/sda1) and the mount point (/media/zip) click the icons to change them to look like zip floppys, set your permisions and your done. right click the icon and choose mount/unmount, or left click to mount and open the directory automatically.
