Scanner parallel port SUSE 9.1

I am trying to install my old Scanner in SUSE 9.1. The configuration is through the parallel port with the printer, as it used to be in old systems, but in SUSE YAst there is not chance to configure the scanner through a parallel port, only USB, Network or SCSI.

Any solution or should I forget about that ?

According to the Suse installation guides Linux can't work with a scanner connected that way. Sorry I think it is a case of either treating yourself to a newer scanner (connecting via usb) or forget it.

SOME parallel scanners work under Windows.

Check out http://www.buzzard.org.uk/jonathan/scanners.html for some info on various scanners that work. I have a Parallel scanner here at the office - an Agfa - and it won't work, they've abandoned their scanner business, but they STILL won't release protocol info to Linux developers, citing intellectual property issues. Bastards. If they abandoned the market, why won't they release the handshaking protocol? Even if they were still in the market, what intellectual property could be stolen by releasing the protocol?
