I'm having a similar problem, ive downloaded and installed lots of rpms to get kdevelop working but now when i try to install an rpm it asks for the root password then does nothing (yes i am gettin the password right ), also the install/remove software has stopped working in YaST
I've had the same problem with a package from AMSC chat utility. I find it all works better not using YaST unless it's a package supplied with the distro.
I've been installing manually anything that doesn't come directly from SUSE.
could you explain how to install stuff manually, last time i tried the configure and make thing it told me that i hadnt got some file which i couldnt find anywhere. are there any other ways to install rpms other than yast? they give better reports about what files they need
yeah . . . by manual I usually mean unzipping the file and then following the directions provided by the vendor which hopefully are like the shockwave flash installer in which case you just run the installer file.
I'm a complete noob when it comes to this stuff.
sorry to be of no help - maybe in a couple of months.
if you are simply having having trouble running make (and I'm guessing here) you may need to install the make utility. Go into YaST, Software, Install and Remove Software, and do a search for make - The GNU make Command. Select it and hit accept.
type make --help in the terminal to ensure it installed.
