Which is faster UltraDMA(33) or DMA (normal)

Hi there, i've been growing in concern at how slow both my DVD drives are at reading files. They barely read above 1Mb/s..... i checked on the forum and have enabled DMA as requested. There were a number of options in the DMA manager of YAST (am runnign suse 10) , i chose UltraDMA/33. The speed seems to be the same even after rebooting as advised. Can anyone tell me (without me having to reboot 6 times to check all possible combinations) which theyve found best to work with their DVD-RW (i have a BENQ DVD-RW drive capable of X16 dvd burning) and DVDROM/CDRW (i have an NEC which should read DVDROMS at X8). I'm gonna try DMA (normal) and see if it is any better.

thanks in advance

if you search for "hdparm" and "dma" you'll find quite a few threads where this very issue is discussed.
