trying to compile Python
Im running SuSE 9.1 with KDE 3.2, and im attempting to compile python, as its required for red carpet. So I installed GCC to compile python with and got this error when using ./configure:
linux:/home/*****/Desktop/Python-2.3.4 # ./configure
checking MACHDEP... linux2
checking EXTRAPLATDIR...
checking for --without-gcc... no
checking for --with-cxx=<compiler>... no
checking for c++... no
checking for g++... no
checking for gcc... gcc
checking for C++ compiler default output... configure: error: C++ compiler cannot create executables
See `config.log' for more details
The config log states it tries to compile a test script and run it, and gives an error along the lines of "Could not run, file not found"
I've done some searching and different people say different things, like install g++ because that particular package needs it. So what woul this package need? G++ too? Or am I way off track
Thanks for any help
