Totem player has stopped showing video

I'm using Pop os 18.04 LTS

The video player Totem has stopped showing video, although I can still hear the sound.

The advice I have been given so far:

Code:
sudo apt install libdvdnav4 libdvdread4 gstreamer1.0-plugins-bad gstreamer1.0-plugins-ugly libdvd-pkg

sudo dpkg-reconfigure libdvd-pkg
This, however, reports that it's already at the latest version for all "apt" installs.

Try using another video player. mpv is a good option.

I have another video player but want this one to work as it's very simple. Also, it is the one that came with the OS, so it should work - it used to!

Run totem from the command line and see if there is any error or warning output in the terminal that may explain what's going wrong.

Can you confirm that this happens for specific videos that previously played correctly?

Also, when did this issue begin? If you can remember fairly accurately then we can have a look at your package log to see if the upgrading or installation of any packages may have caused the problem.

All videos regardless.

This started after I was using a video editor to export. Either Openshot or OBS Studio.

Strange. If you can remember the date it happened, have a look in /var/log/apt/history.log to see if any packages were installed/upgraded just before the issue arose.

Also, close Totem and then have a look at the dot files in your home directory (including .config and .local), and see if there are any called .totem or similar. If there are then rename them, and start Totem again. It could be something in your user config/profile that's causing the issue.

Have followed this and no luck.

How can I remove this and all its files so it doesn't leave a trace and then I could reinstall?

Do you think that would work?

It might. Did you find totem files/directories in your home directory?

Ah, I see that you have now added a lot of error output to a previous post after saying that were no errors. I'll have a look at it.

This seems to be a similar, although older issue.

Yup. I came across another one too. The question is though, why did it suddenly start happening when it worked fine before? The only thing I can think of is a software installation/upgrade.

If you want to get rid of a package entirely:

Code:
sudo apt-get --autoremove purge packagename
and then remove the relevant config files/directories in your home directory (although you still haven't told me yet which ones you found).

Both! Only one of them had a file in it. I opened it and about 6 lines of text referred to window size, so nothing seemed erroneous.

There wasn't a history log for the date I was using the editor program.
