Totem or totem gstreamer wont decode quicktime or wmv movies!

i cannot get totem to play quicktime .mov(s) or wmv files.
I've apt-get(ted)/(got?) gstreamer0.8 and the gstreamer-plugins as well as the ffmeg and faad plugins.

As soon as i click on a .mov file, totem says it's unable to decode it.
I've check the addons folder and the qt and win codecs are all there. gst-register shows the ffmpeg is there too.

any ideas?
it works ok with mplayer...

help please!!

si

true.
but i preferred the ui in totem, simple and gnome-like.
unlike mplayer's gawdy blue and xine's 'i look to hi-tech'
but thanks for the info.

There is a version of totem that uses xine libs as the backend. You may want to look into that.
