Im using linux mint 13 and been trying for ages now to copy music to iphone currently have installed rhythem box, songbird, gtkpod, banshee and probably a few others and been trying to get music on with everything and just constantly seem to fail it says its copied whilst attached to the computer but as soon as I eject it seems to mysteriously vanish.
Ive read in places (cant recall where now) that the newer iphones and ipods currently have no support under linux so thinking that could be the issue. Maybe someone has a solution as I really dont feel like installing windows just for stupid annoying i devices

you should probably read the documentation, as with a jailbroken iphone you can install an ssh server and upload the files via sftp, you would have to place them into a specific directory for the software to find it, usually via sftp, i did the same thing with a jailbroken ipad, it should be somewhere in the documentation that comes with the software.
