sudo apt-get update not working


when i try to update system ;
sudo apt-get update
i get :

Reading package lists... Done
E: Could not get lock /var/lib/apt/lists/lock - open (11: Resource temporarily unavailable)
E: Unable to lock directory /var/lib/apt/lists/
what am i doing wrong

KDE Plasma Version 5.8.9
KDE Framework Version 5.36.0
Qt Version 5.6.1
Kernel Version 4.10.0-38-generic
OS Type 64-bit
Hardware;
4xIntel Core I3-4030 CPU @ 1.90 Ghz
Memory 3.8 GiB of Ram

Another process might be using APT:-
OR> the repo might be down.

Do you have Synaptic or the Software MGR open and running?
IF so close it.

Did you change your sources list?

I have observed that in a number of *buntu-based distros, an update checker checks for updates right after login and periodically thereafter. It could be that you are running into this update checker.

Try waiting a few minutes and then trying it again and let us know what happens.

It definitely is that another process is currently updating. Any time it says cannot acquire the lock after running as sudo, it's another process. Let the other finish before trying again.
