Sound Problem under Knoppix with SBLive

I've decided to give gnu/linux another try and play with knoppix some to get the feel. Last time I played with gnu/linux I was turned away because it was way to difficult to get my integrated sound card working. Now I've got a Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 that works fine under Windows XP, and when I boot Knoppix it seems to detect it (loads the emu10k1 driver). Upon loading XMMS and other sound programs I discovered that although the songs were playing, I couldn't hear them. I then proceeded to play with Kmix where everything seemed to be set properly, and when I set the volume to max and turned my speakers up, if I muted the volume I could hear a faint click.

Any ideas how I can get sound working?

Thanks,
Kevin

try turning off the dreadfull kde sound server in the kde configure thingy and restart kde
and see if it's better.....
if no post the output of lsmod
should be
Code:
emu10k1 92100 2
sound 95516 1 emu10k1
soundcore 12096 5 snd,emu10k1,sound
ac97_codec 22764 1 emu10k1

Is it possible to restart kde while running knoppix? From what I understand knoppix shutdown once kde is closed.

lsmod returned the following:
Code:
emu10k1 61064 1
sound 55276 0 [emu10k1]
i810_audio 25048 1
ac97_codec 11916 0 [emu10k1 i810_audio]
soundcore 3428 9 [emu10k1 sound i810_audio]
Thanks,
Kevin
