No sound SBlive 7.1

Installed Slack-10.1 on new computer.
Updated with slapt-get and installed kernel-2.6.11.11.
Then installed alsa-driver 1.0.9b-2.6.11.11.
Sound card (SBlive 7.1 ) is recognized as ca_0106:
cat /proc/asound/cards
0 [CA0106 ]: CA0106 - CA0106
Live! 7.1 24bit [SB0410] at 0xbc00 irq 11

and part of lsmod:

snd_pcm_oss 47008 0
snd_mixer_oss 16384 1 snd_pcm_oss
snd_ca0106 23844 0
snd_ac97_codec 75388 1 snd_ca0106
snd_pcm 75528 3 snd_pcm_oss,snd_ca0106,snd_ac97_codec
snd_timer 19844 1 snd_pcm
snd 45700 6 snd_pcm_oss,snd_mixer_oss,snd_ca0106,snd_ac97_codec,snd_pcm,snd_timer
soundcore 6880 1 snd
snd_page_alloc 7556 2 snd_ca0106,snd_pcm

Running alsa.conf resulted in following modprobe.conf:
alias snd-card-0 snd-ca0106
alias sound-slot-0 snd-ca0106
Looks rather thin.

Anyhow, i'v no sound.
Anybody, any idea?

How do you test sound, with which program ?

Did you try : aplay any_sound.wav
from command line ?

I did:
bash$ aplay /winc/windows/Media/chord.wav
Playing WAVE '/winc/windows/Media/chord.wav' : Signed 16 bit Little Endian, Rate 22050 Hz, Stereo
However no sound.

I suspect that the file created by alsaconf (see previous post) is not correct: only 2 lines.

The modprobe.conf is correct - mine is only two lines as well.

Have you checked if you need to turn up one of the other channels? With my Audigy (emu10k1), after about Alsa 1.0.6, I also have to turn up the 'front' channel to get any sound (although I don't use surround speakers!)

i'v 2 speakers and had all channels turned up:
4 analog, 5 spdif and capture.
After I muted spdif ou, I could hear a sound.wav.
Thank you, that's a step in the right direction..

While I'm writing, a test with the CD-player did not succeed.
But a test with gxine (radio-station) gave a nice sound.
So it's no longer a SBlive problem, but a small CD-player problem.
Have to figure out how to handle a combo CD/DVD-drive.

Tnx
