RH8 gnome very slow to log in

Using RH8 2.4-20-20.8 on HP4100 and 6000

When loging in with gnome it's very slow (5 Minutes) and all that come up is the icons no panel. You can however start the panel after and everything works great. RH7.3 did not have this problem.

KDE works fine.

What is gnome doing in the background that KDE does not?

this is not the usual behaviour. i had gnome working on my redhat 8 system just fine. you should probably create a new user and try. if not remove and reinstall the gnome packages
