Angry Problems upgrading kernel on HPT controller

I am a newbie and would like to upgrade my kernel to the most recent version from 2.4.20-8.

The problem is firstly that I attempted to do this through up2date but then found that it had not updated lilo.conf (the initrd entry for the new kernel was missing)

I discovered how to create the initrd .img etc. but when I ran the initrd command the computer reported that the was no module present for my HPT374 controller.

I have removed the files I can find for the old kernel (But not according to up2date that keeps telling me to boot from the new kernel!)

In the past I have used the driver disk downloaded from highpoint-tech.com only when installing redhat from scratch. Can somebody please explain how to include this driver that I have downloaded from highpoint when upgrading the kernel?

PS. Nice forum BTW
