RH8 on HPT RAID

I am trying to install RH8 on a Kr7A-133R / XP1900 system.

On this forum, I found the post by "sharkyrOlz"---and his website with instructions on this exact problem. Trying to follow verbatim, but cannot make it work. At the beginning, everytihg is fine, the RAID arrays are seen and the install proceeds.

At the end the instructions are to copy 2 files to /boot, return to the installer, and exit/reboot.

First, when you interrupt the installer, there IS no /boot. I think I have figured out that one must copy to /mnt/sysimage/boot.

Second problem: the files to be copied do not seem to exist anywhere. On the floppy made from sharky's instructions, the file names are **similar**. I tryed copying/renaming---no luck here either---the system started from the HD, but tried to install--not boot what I had already installed. I infer that the files I need are put somewhere during the install process---but where??

For the instructions I followed: http://www.terra/es/personal2/capullator: "how to install mandrake 9 / redhat 8 into a highpoint 370/372 raid..."

I have the sense that I am missing something obvious here---In a previous thread, people seem to have succeeded using these instructions. One post stated that a new kernel supported HPT 374---went to HPT site and found this, but nothing on the 372.

Going crazy here.........

Will be grateful for any insights

Question MDK 9 on hpt370/372

Hello
I'ma a completely newbie in linux trying to install a mandrake 9.0 on my pht 370/372 controler, but with no raid array.
Here is the config I want to set up:
Raid port 1 disk 1: MDK9 on 8 Gb old Seagate drive (Master)
Raid port 1 disk 2: Windows XP on 60 Gb IBM 60 GXP drive (Slave)
Raid port 2 disk 1: Datas on 120 Gb IBM 120 GXP drive (Master)
Raid port 2 disk 2: None

On the other IDE ports, i've got my DVD-Rom device and my Yamaha CD R/RW, each one Master on a channel.

I first tried to install MDk normally, and my partitionning system wasn't able to read. Looked for solutions on forums, and then tried to install with the floppy provided with the hpt37x2.o module and the modified kernel. but I wasn't asked whether to replace the kernel files while copying them, and then I couldn't manage finding the /.chroot asked for at the end of the install (just before rebooting), so I couldn't boot on linux.

Then i put the 8 Gb drive on an IDE channel and install went fine, but I could mount others drives for access (I had unplugged them during linux install).

Any ideas ? I want to have my all drives back on the HPT controller, and the dual boot. I remember you that there's no raid array definid, and that is not the aim here.

Thanks
