pre-dependency problem, but dependency is met

I am trying to install stuff on PCLinuxOS, using a .deb file, but get a pre-dependency problem, which I do not understand.

Committing changes...
Preparing ############################## [100%]
Updating / installing
perl-base-5.22.3-1pclos2017.x86_64 ############################## [100%]
Done.
[roger@localhost Downloads]$ sudo dpkg -i /home/roger/Downloads/debconf_1.5.77_all.deb
dpkg: regarding .../debconf_1.5.77_all.deb containing debconf, pre-dependency problem:
debconf pre-depends on perl-base (>= 5.20.1-3~)
perl-base is not installed.

I installed perl-base, seems OK, but installing debconf_1.5.77_all.deb stll complains that perl-base is not installed.

Any ideas on what I am missing?

I have not used PCLOS in a few years, but, they use synaptic and apt BUT they use rpm packages not debs. Maybe that is the issue?

What do you need that's not in your package manager: security, stability or no?

https://wiki.debian.org/debconf "your" Linux maintainers may have it there https://wiki.debian.org/DebianAndOtherDistros https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCLinuxOS

This comes about after trying

dpkg: regarding .../mysql-apt-config_0.8.25-1_all.deb containing mysql-apt-config, pre-dependency problem:
mysql-apt-config pre-depends on debconf (>= 0.2.17)
debconf is not installed.

So I wanted to install debconf, and that is where I stayed.

Is it in your package manager, especially Mysql?

A quick search for: why use your package manager in Linux, e.g: https://www.linode.com/docs/guides/l...ment-overview/

[QUOTE=rogted;6431521] like Jkirchner mentioned, there's a .rpm to try? I know once in awhile with Ruby or directx I needed exact versions but think 5.2x is the same thing? You can try searching and try trusting sources for: debconf .rpm but if the problem was before that, again with a .deb on PClinuxOS not Debian?

Edited.

Maybe: https://forums.mysql.com/read.php?152,285941,285941
there are also a lot of alternatives to that software in your package manager?

Firstly, as has been said, PCLinuxOS uses rpm packages, not deb ones. Secondly, why are you not installing the database from the PCLinuxOS repository?
