PCLinuxOS Does Not Start KDE

I recently got my first Linux distribution: a live cd of PCLinuxOS. It is based off mandrake, but fits on one live CD. It's supposed to be one of the easiet distros to use.

On every review I've seen, they talk about how they put in the CD and went directly to the KDE Login Prompt. This doesn't work for me. For some reason, it boots to the command line. I can't even run startx from there. I keep getting all kinds of errors (and yes I've tried xf86config).

What's the deal? How come it boots to the command line? Is there any way to fix it?

Please help!!!!

Thanks,
RandomMiser07

Never heard of PCLinuxOS. But if it's supposed to boot into KDE directly and it didn't, something went wrong when probing your graphics card. What is the error message you are getting?.

The only liveCD I've ever tried was knoppix and at the prompt, we had a chance to choose which desktop to start with. Maybe there's something like that PCLinuxOS?..

Sound strange.

Hey.

I have PClinuxOS 2007 installed on a Laptop, and it works flawless regarding graphics.

It seems that it is your graphic card that should be the problem.

If it is a Desktop you got, change the card and try again.

If it is a Laptop try to get the card fixed (typically change the mainboard).

Got luck

Best regards

it probably needs a driver for your video card, post your specs for your computer
