Oversize desktop

Ok, my memory is a little vague on this matter. I think I remember a setting when I installed my linux that asked if I wanted an oversized desktop or one equal to the viaual area. (does that make sense?) . Anyways, I'm using gotomypc.com and the virtual deskop produced by their java applet is bigger than my screen (And there aren't scrollbars). I was wondering if it had anything to do with this setting that I may be imagining. Any help. J

go to a terminal as root and run xf86config; use your monitors'
manual to enter the correct info. near the end you will get an
option to set resolutions. re-choose the resolutions, and make
sure you choose 'no', when the question is asked to use a
larger-then-screen virtual desktop (not sure what the words
used are atm). good luck.
