No X-Windows in linux inside VMware

I have recently installed vmware workstaton 3.0. I then installed RHL 7.1 as a virtual machine. The entire installation process went without a hitch. However after loggin in as root I am not being able to get to the kde desktop. even statrx is not being able to load my desktop. I had aslo tried xf86config to configure my X-Windows but to no avail. Every time I do so I get a fatal error! What should I do? Please help! I have a Celeron 633MHz machine with a Intel 810 mo/bo, 40GB HDD, 128MB SDRAM, Acer 34e Monitor.

Are you using the intergrated video in the intel 810 chipset? Have you tried an add on video card?
