ah right, as for that i do not actually know how to post all that, i believe that a picture from my phone is the best I can do, other then that I have no clue because I do believe that what I have been trying to use is only a temporary thing until the actual OS is installed, most if not all of this is beyond my understanding and all of my current understanding is in the use of windows, so I have no clue as to how to post the output! will a picture suffice? or is there a way I can? and as for the NIC, i will try to look into that!

You're supposed to be looking for those unusual devices for which the driver is missing.

Try: lspci -knn | grep -iA3 Net

(The A in -iA3 is uppercase; the preceeding i is lowercase)


What is the model of your laptop? (IF someone has the same computer, or web researches the model, they might be able to tell you what device drivers are needed, so this is a VERY important question!)

A totally different temporary path, which would actually be the opposite of your goal of getting rid of windows, but would allow you to learn & play with pre-installed Linux, just like any other app / game running under windows, with zero chance of even disturbing (never mind breaking) your PC: OSboxes.org/virtualbox

uh no, absolutely nothing has been written can not even get past the initial scanning part as for my computer it is a "MSI vector GP76 Laptop", and no i have not seen all the posts on reddit, I just know how many people out there that would or already have done so, human nature is not so easily rewritten, but is rather predictable in its ways, like going for EV cars instead of HF-Cell cars, Mankind has a very long history of doing things the most difficult and destructive ways first and then trying to change when it is already far to late to easily switch course. and yes I have tried looking up why it happens to be stuck at "detecting file systems", and as for the internet, I can not even get the ethernet hook up to work, when i try to connect i get something like in the picture which confuses the beans out of me! just a picture i looked up to show you!

And the partitions, the highlighted one is the one I plan to use for Linux, the one above it is the /cdrom with the key symbol that I keep getting alerts about unmounting problems

I think you're internet is up and working wired. Try this in some terminal or console:

lsblk -f | nc termbin.com 9999

It should return a termbin.com URL that has about four characters after the slash. Browse that and post that so we can look at your disk partitions.
Once you get that technique of posting information to work, you could even copy and paste it here.

ya it is because i am doing my best to be cautious, computers are not cheap, and by the way same here, curreantly 4:29 and ya I am a major night owl! by the way if it is working, then why does it refuse to allow internet access even when plugged in?

The BIOS_RVY partition is used to restore Windows back to the factory state.

The WinRE partition contains tools to repair Windows.

The Basic Data partition is where Windows is installed. I do not know why it is mounted to /cdrom but as long as it is mounted you can not make changes to it and at the moment there is no reason make any changes.

Are you still running from the live USB or did you actually install Mint? If not installed make sure you use the manual option to assign / to partition 4.

ya been doing it manually but it does not finish installing and far as i know, i have to use my exterior drive to run it. and i am not sure if it is the /cdrom partition that is impeding the install.

Are you actually clicking the "Install Linux Mint" icon on the live desktop?

Having Windows mounted should not affect the installation but might unmount it anyway.

Have you read the installation guide?
