Mass-Compiling Possible with Slackware 10?

Still new to the Linux game, and I'm wondering if there's a way to mass-install applications...ie. AbiWord. The tar.gz file extracts right to the destkop but it's filled with folders and no config files...the config/make/make install files are in each folder seperately...is there an easy way to install everything (such as all the plugins) at once? Or do I need to configure/make/make install each folder? Thanks!

why you installing frmo source?

abiword is in the slackware install disks as slackware package. (.tgz)

read UPGRADE.txt on CD1 for instructions on mass-installing.

basically upgradepkg --install-new */*.tgz
(tho some caveats attached especially if upgrading)

and erm, what are you using to extract? shouldn't extract to the "desktop". (what desktop, kde, gnome, whatever?)

I'd recommend tar -xvzf filename.tar.gz in future for undoing tarballs, but stick to packages wherever possible anyway. www.linuxpackages.net for stuff not in the main install.

I didn't even really want to upgrade...I just want to be able to use Spanish dictionary it comes w/ so I can get spelling check done while I'm writing papers for Spanish class. I finally got the upgrade to work...but it still doesn't recognize it's own Spanish package...HELP! Thanks!
