Exclamation Locked out of Drives?

It's me again, except this time it's my bro. wondering something. (I'm actually writing this on my laptop) Well he installed M.D. 8.2 d/l edition on his Big Box on a seperate H.D. besides his XP one. Well he logs in as his regular user name and most his removable media is locked! It shows a little icon with a lock on it. He's locked out of his zip100/floppy/usb floppy. He has a disk in them and it says "you do not have enough permission" even if he logs in as root. Please let me know how to fix this! Thanks for your time...

This might happen if there isn't anything mounted in these directories. Also, depending on the options in /etc/fstab a user might not be able to mount the drives, and would then also see a lock. If you aren't sure on what to do on the drives in question, you can search around a little and probably find an answer, if you don't, post your /etc/fstab file here, and let someone take a stab at it.

Cool

Can root mount the devices exclusively (i.e. from the command line, giving all parameters)? Also, is your bro familiar with the whole mounting concept? Mandrake 8.2, by default, enables supermounting, which can sometimes cause more problems than it solves. Try to train your bro in the whys and wherefores of mounting.
