Linus (SuSE) and disk formats


There seem to be several options for formatting a drive to install the OS I mentioned above. Are there caveats twixt eft2 and eft3 etc?

There are numerous threads on this topic which can be found using the search function. Also, you can learn about the various file systems with an easy google search.

Personally, I use reiser file system.

ext2 isn't journaling, so if it doesn't get unmounted cleanly (i.e. you push the reset button), you have to fsck (think scandisk) the partition.

That isn't the case for journaling FSes, such as ext3, reiserFS, XFS and JFS. Google for comparisons. I'm running reiser (version 3), and it works. parted can't resize it, though.
