Went with Linows version of Linux, did not want to learn programming as much as I wanted to get away from microsoft!
Anyway, trying to install opera, but a lot of the help here talks about a "K" button, and install buttons. I have the .tar.gz file and also the .rpm file, but really don't know what to do. Tried a few commands in the L terminal, but I am lost. Help? I REALLY want to stay with linux...
to linux, not new to computers
What kind of help are you talking about? The lindows help files?
If so my guess is that they are talking about installing with click&run. But a quick search on lindows.com tought me that they don't provide that for opera so my bet would be to install the rpm file.
To do that type the following in a terminal:
rpm -i filename.rpm
Then it should install and typing opera should start the browser. If you have problems check out the documentation at www.opera.com
I actually have opera up and running... now I just need to find why java doesnt work... I downloaded the 1.3... version and did preferences/modify path and all that, but still says not java supported. Is this an easy fix?

When I go to the opera linux site, I do not see an option for java support or non. Opera site or any Linux sites dont seem to have the answer... but opera still says not java supported. It can't just be me... can it?
okay, this might not help, but in mozilla you have to put a symlink in the plugins directory. For example, I have java installed in /usr/local/j2sdk1.4.1_01/ and mozilla is installed in /usr/lib/mozilla
I'm not sure if Opera has a plugin directory, but I'd imagine it does. So just make a symlink from the /java_installation/jre/plugin/i386/ns610/libjavapluginoji.so /path_to_opera_plugins.
Remember, I am new to Linux, and also frustrated already... but I downloaded a .bin file... do I have to run something in the console to get the actually plug-in?
