I am trying to burn an audio CD from mp3 files using k3b in Fedora 10, but it doesn't support it. I have downloaded k3b from another source but don't know how to install it. I have extracted the file and now I have loads of files, configure, makefile etc etc. How do i install this??
I'm assuming from this that Fedora came with k3b. That being the case, installing k3b again is not likely to fix anything.
First, check to see that you are in the proper group. It's typically something like "cdrom" or "optical". You can see the choices in your GUI system admin menus, or you can do it in a terminal.
To see all groups: more /etc/group
To add yourself to--eg--optical:
su ##to become root
usermod -a -G optical <username>
Alternatively, just run k3b as root (from a terminal)
Beyond this, tell us what is not working.
If you DON'T have k3b, then surely Fedora has some other CD-burning application.
Actually its a matter of proprietary codecs , that k3b does not come with out of the box. What you need to do is install k3b-mp3 and the one you already have installed should then support it.
you can do this through the gui , or login to terminal as root and type in the following
