package compiling from source, make & make install concepts

hi everybody,

i want to know, when we install package from source, we write command

./configure then
make and
make install.

what is the difference among these commands, what actually happen after these commands.

"./configure" lets you set options for the compilation.

"make" does the actual compiling.

"make install" installs the package, by copying the new files to where they should be (eg. the executable to /usr/bin normally).
