k3b can't burn in mandriva 2006

i have a little problem with k3b i cant burn anything for some reason -_-

i explain what i do step by step and how i get the problem

i go to system>archiving>k3b

i click on it and it takes awhile to start up like 3 mins or 4
and my machine is pretty fast so i wonder why it takes so long

well anyways i get to the screen
new dvd data project

some text screen pops up when i try burning and says
some filenames need to be shortened due to the 64 char restriction of the joliet extensions continue anyway?

do i need to rename every program to 4 letters or something like that or could i click on on a option to eliminate that

anyways i click yes and the thing tries to burn and i get this error

fatal error at startup input/ouput error

and i also notice that on fifo buffer says no info
and device buffer no info
could that be part of my problem

about the 64 char problem
i went to advanced and i clicked allow 103
character joliet names
i dont know if that solved my problem but it din't ask again about 64 char

now i try to burn again and i get "error while creating iso image"
and fatal error at startup:input/output error

hope you can help me with my dilemma

Could be some hardware problem... I think the long startup could bring us the solution. Please start k3b from the commandline and see if you get there some more information.
Did you do an upgrade to 2006 or is it a fresh install? Upgrading can lead to problems sometimes.

Just open a terminal (System->Terminals->e.g. GNOME Terminal), type in k3b, hit return and see if you get some more output like error messages, warnings, etc.
