Hi i have a compaq d500 machine p4 1.8Processor speed, 800Mb RAM, 110Gb HDD, and I have tried on several occasions to install linux both opensuse 11.0 and 11.1, but after loading the Kernel the machine blacks out, with no other process running yet still powered on, help how can i go about this problem. I want to keep away from using windows completely
Try hitting Alt+F1 which should put you at a prompt in the shell. From their look through /etc/X11/xorg.conf and find the line that has your video card. If it is not already try changing it to vesa and restart X. Then see if you get a window on Alt+F7
