well,wev got these new Compaq Evo systems in the college, & iv been trying to get Linux (RHL 9) installed on them.Trouble is , theve been preconfigured with a single partition.Theyve got WinXP with an NTFS filesystem with a single partition taking up the whole drive.I tried using PartitionMagic(ver 7), it prepares itself to make the required changes at the WinXP startup,but when it starts to execute its batch file, it exits with
an error 16xx (i dont remember) : index size is too large .
i tried something else: i thought i would use fdisk to partition the hard drive, then run the restore cd the compaq guys have provided..but when i tried running the cd to take a look before using fdisk, it said that it would reformat the hdd with a *single* partition..thats not what i want!
im kinda stuck...help?
im no
, but im no
either..somewhere in the middle.
the full system info is : Compaq Evo D510 CMT, 1.6Ghz, 256 MB DDR SDRAM, 40 GB HDD, single partiton using up ALL the drive space,NTFS filesystem, OS: WinXP 2002,Service Pack 1.
Tools i have at my disposal: fips(it wont touch NTFS partitions
)
Partition Magic 7, and the system restore cd that comes with the system.
Any help would be highly appreciated.
