installed knoppix copy cant see files in hda1 in terminal


i installed the knoppix using
knoppix tohd=/dev/hda1
from the boot terminal.when i boot i use
knoppix fromhd=/dev/hda1
and the knoppix DVD.
Problem is that i cant see files in hda1 from the terminal but only through the desktop.I've tried accessing from /dev/hda1 ,/mnt/hda1 even /media/hda1.any ideas pliz?using ls i can't see the files.it just skips to the prompt.

You need to mount the partition.
