I am not aware of any linux based parallel port loop back test software. Although it should not be very difficult to write one. In addition to what already has been posted.
You need to build a loopback connector. You can find the pinouts for adapters that came with the DOS/Windows diagnostic packages.
in a case like this it might be better to go to Advanced Search and enter the 2 most important search terms ("parallel port"?), then select "Search Titles only" (and "Show results as Threads").
there are more options, whatever is suitable to narrow it down.
