How print file from my OLPC X/O to my Brother printer?

Hi,

I am a retired systems programmer. I've used hexydex and several computer languages. but never learned Linux.
I also have an ew X/O from the One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) project ...which I am very enthused about !!!!!!!
I have started to learn Linux in order to put extra programs an Services onto my X/O. I am very new at this and you'll see that I proceed by trial and error.

I am now trying to connect my X/O to my Brother wireless printer. I found "sudo" commands , and have installed CUPS, a brother driver, etc. I have gotten my X/O to find and enable the printer queue for Brother, put things in it,
and I even sent and printed 1 page of material...but it wasn't the page I thought I was sending!!!

Has anyone else connected to a Brother printer successfully? What sequence of command?

Here are several commands and files I have used? Can anyone tell me what I am missing???

sudo rpm -i mfc490cwlpr-1.1.1-1.i386.rpm
rpm -q a

su start cups

service cups restart

sudo deviceURI ipp://192.168.1.103
ping ipaddress
ping 192.168.1.103
ping 192.168.1.100
arp -s 192.168.1.103

printf sample.text
lpr sample.txt
lpr -P ipp sample.txt
sudo lpr -p ipp -p sample.txt

lpr dev ipp
lpr-cups -P 192.168.1.103
lprintq

lpc status all

Check your logs directory (/var/log) see if there are any errors or warnings. It would be helpful to be able to see a copy of your configs and relevant logs also.
