Help With SuSE - Installing

Hello... I have just switched to linux from xp..... I'm running SuSE which is really stunning. But... I am having a few problems. First I am faving trouble installing things... I've been able to install one thing, FireFox though YaST. But I can't find it..... I tried with no success to install WINEHQ. And when I start up, as soon as i'm into the desktop... 1000 things open....... So is there a way like windows to use an "msconfig" type thing to limite whats going on? Thanks soo much

hi and welcome to LQ rob!!!

for firefox, open a run command (right click on an empty part of your desktop and click "run command" and type firefox into the box...that should start it for you. you can make a link to it by right clicking your desktop and choosing "create new link to application" then name it firefox, for the command part, it should just be firefox also.

what programs are opening on your desktop? and what errors did you get when you tried to install wine?

For the things starting up, if you're using KDE go to "K"->Settings->Control Center
Select "KDE Components", and go to "Session Manager"
Select "Start with empty session" and restart KDE (logout/login)

Sidenote: You can also used saved sessions ie:
Select instead, "Start with saved session"
open all programs that you want to open up when you start KDE, and to to "K"->Save Session
Restart KDE -all those programs should load
