Help with Imaging my system

Hi all,

I just installed Opensuse 10. on my dell and as expected not everything worked out of the box.

I had to change settings, tweak options to get everything working just the way i want.

Now is there a way that i can create an "image" of the system so that in the unlikely event where i have to format my hdd i can just use that disk to get everything back to right now ??

in a nuteshell looking to make a restore DVD(s) that would restore my computer to the current state (OS + files).

i saw couple of other threads over the same issue but had no solutions.

hoping someone can help
a

Hi -

I'm reluctant to suggest any of the Linux backup tools (amanda, Bacula, dd, etc) because I'm not really sure they would really help with your scenario.

http://linux.about.com/od/softbackup..._Solutions.htm

Here are two suggestions you might find useful:

1. Ghost for Linux (G4L):
http://freshmeat.net/projects/g4l/
http://linux.softpedia.com/get/Syste...inux-053.shtml

2. VMWare Converter for Linux:
http://virtualaleph.blogspot.com/200...th-vmware.html

I've used VMWare Converter successfully on Windows... but it doesn't look like VMWare really supports it for Linux. Which goes back to either "backup", or something like "G4L".

'Hope that helps .. PSM
