FYI printer installation... for us newbies

I have just finished setting up a hp office-jet 6500 wireless printer on my Ubuntu 10.10 system.

followed all the steps with the terminal and installing files and hplip files and what not. Worked perfect on usb cable but could not get wireless.
I proceeded to use the installation disk on one of my windows based network machines and went through the prompts for wireless configuration.

once that was done i came back to ubuntu and used system/administration/printing and searched for network printer. it showed up right away and i let it install the necessary files then set it as default printer and it works quite nicely.

thank you to all who have helped on this interesting learning curve.

ps. i guess windows is useful after all.. sorta

Hi,

Glad to hear the device is working for you.

You should perform that gratitude within the threads to the members that helped. This can be done via 'rep' small scale to the bottom left of the members response. Or you can check the helpful flag to the right.

Doing it within alien thread may not be read by the members due the salutation/thanks.
