fedora core +nvidia

When I installed fedora it wants to go right to graphical mode and from there I can't do anything. The monitor shuts down and when I alt-ctrl-f1 or ctrl-x-c I am unable to do anything unlike slackware where I was able to install NVIDIA-DRIVERS then startx. It seems like fedora wants to go right to X and then I can not download and install drivers through lynx text browser.Any help appreciatted.
